  • Great Books!

Can we read one million minutes this year?
YES, WE CAN!

The Swanton School is excited about a new reading initiative! All of the students in the school have been invited to participate in a reading club, with a goal of reading 1,000,000 minutes collectively by the end of the school year! The Millionaires' Club encourages students to develop and foster a love of reading for enjoyment.

To incorporate families into this initiative, and to provide the students with an even bigger challenge (not to mention competition!), adult community members (not just school personnel) are invited to participate in their own Millionaires' Club! Students and adults are competing against each other to see who can read one million minutes first!

Each Wednesday, all students receive a reading log to keep for the week. Each time they read outside of school, they can record the minutes they read for the day. The log is returned the following week, and the totals of all the reading logs are calculated. Adults turn in their reading logs once a month, and as with students, they can record any reading they are doing outside of their employment expectations. This club is optional - students and community members are encouraged to participate, but it is not mandated.

Prizes are awarded throughout the year, with a year end hope of meeting our goal and having a school-wide celebration! The year kicked off with every student getting a book to keep - that's more than 500 books going home with families!

If you are a Swanton community member and would like to participate in this initiative, please see the link to the adult page above. You do not have to have a child or relative in the school to participate - this program is open to all Swanton residents. You can also keep track of our progress by visiting the links on the page for students and adults.

HAPPY READING!
